Skye’s Premier Climbers’ Hostel
Book direct here!
Skye Basecamp is our climbers’ inspired hostel looking over beautiful Broadford Bay on the Isle of Skye. With 9 guest rooms split between dorms and private en suite rooms we provide the ideal central location, perfect for folk who have come for the unique playground Skye offers for climbing, paddling, hiking and much more. We advise booking a minimum of 2 nights as anything less does not do give enough time to see Skye!
We aim to attract a clientele who enjoy adding to the atmosphere at Basecamp by exchanging tales of where they’ve been and what is good to do with fellow guests. Our staff are all active in the outdoors & have a good knowledge of the island to assist guests in getting the best experiences during their stay.
All the shops, bars and restaurants in Broadford village are within easy walking distance and Basecamp has fabulous facilities so everything you need is right here. Don’t believe us just check the reviews, 9.8 on Hostelworld in 2024!
Booking T&Cs
No Under 16s
Skye Basecamp is primarily a hiker’s hostel and a lot of our guests need to be up early to explore the mountains of Skye. This means that they need a good night’s sleep and so we cannot accept under 16s in the hostel. We’ve made this decision due to past issues with lack of parental control so if you’re travelling with someone under 16 you unfortunately will not be able to book a bed/room at the hostel.
However, if you are travelling with an under 16 you are more than welcome to book our private self catering annex “Skye Basecamp Lodge.” Check it out here!
Bookings Over A Month Ahead
As we are primarily the accommodation of our mountain guiding company Skye Guides, we reserve the vast amount of our spaces for these groups.
May & June are the busiest times for mountain guiding on Skye & the availability on our booking system will only be a few days in advance once we are sure we have all our Skye Guides’ clients organised with accommodation.
July to October availability will show a few weeks ahead depending on the amount of groups booked in through Skye Guides when we’re sure they won’t be needed by guiding groups.
If you are planning more than a few weeks ahead (as we’d highly suggest in Skye), then send us an email on bookings@skyebasecamp.co.uk with your intended travel dates and if we have availability we’ll be happy to book you in before the rooms get released on our live booking system.
Skye Basecamp, at the foot of Beinn na Caillich
Our ethos is aimed at the outdoor enthusiast but we always welcome anyone coming to appreciate the diverse nature, wilderness and beauty of our island. Skye time is special and we encourage guests to immerse themselves rather than “ticking the box”.
Many guests extend their stay when they realise how amazing the experience is and just what a deluxe place Skye Basecamp is to stay 😉
Our facilities reflect this with a large, well equipped self-catering kitchen, bespoke drying room, power showers & strong wooden beds.

Exploring Skye’s Mountains
With Skye Guides
Skye Basecamp is run by Skye Guides, the island’s biggest mountain guiding company. We offer a range of services similar to mountain guiding bureaux in the Alps. Our office operates from Basecamp and guides are always around for free advice on conditions and routes. It is best to book in advance but outings can be arranged at short notice.
The Black Cuillin are the best mountains in the UK. It is the only truly alpine environment in Britain and has been a mecca for climbers and walkers for over 150 years. There is also superb rock climbing right around the 1000 mile coast-line.
